Why Online Coaching?
The Benefits of Coaching
Hiring a coach gives you the power to focus your time and attention toward achieving maximal physiological results. Training and competition are worthless if goals are not made and results not achieved in a timely manner. A coach can help you identify your strengths and weaknesses as a cyclist, set goals that are achievable, and then measure your progress through objective means.
Adding Technology to the Mix
The beauty of online coaching is that the technology actually enhances our ability to communicate with each other. All Online Bike Coach clients receive a complimentary subscription to TrainingPeaks, an online database that provides a calendar for programming, power meter upload and analysis, data backups, and other important features. Skype, instant messaging, and phone calls are also used to discuss training, performances, past workouts and future programming.
About the Program
Online coaching programs are 12 weeks long. Initial tests are performed to establish baseline values, and follow-up tests are done every six weeks to quantify changes in performance and shift attention if needed. Training plans are built in 1-2 week chunks and are highly flexible to accommodate the rider's schedule and availability.
Coach Wharton's online coaching clients receive:
- Each week, a set of 4-6 workouts for both CompuTrainers and outdoor rides
- A weekly review via phone or Skype
- Daily instant messaging (availability dependent on schedule)
- Clear quantification of improvements in power
- A free TrainingPeaks account for the duration of the contract
Currently, Coach Wharton is only taking on clients who already own:
- A CompuTrainer indoor ergometer
- An outdoor power meter of your choice
